- From Social Inclusion Project Manager

Dear Hassen, I don't think you can possibly be aware of the pleasure you gave to our clients and their guests on Saturday night at the first-ever Enham Summer Ball. The buzz that is going around the whole site is just tremendous. The food was excellent, deliceious and beautifully presented, and your waiting staff interacted with our clients and went a long way to making them feel special. It's not often that they feel that way. I can't really thank you enough, but on behalf of the Enham Social Club, the clients and guests, please accept our greatest thanks.

- Landlady keeps spirit of Christmas alive

Sue Collins, the 55-year old landlady of the King's Head pub on Thatcham Broadway, devotes one day a year every Christmas to giving something back to the community.

This December, as ever, she will lay on free food and drink for OAPs as a mark of respect and gratitude to her elders. Now in its eight year, the work of Mrs. Collins has gone unheralded outside a small circle of people in the town and, for 42-year ol chef Hassen Guerroudj, it is high time that the landlady was given the credit she deserves. It's fantastic what she does, and it's important that people recognise it, he said. Mr. Guerroudj himself will be helping with the food this year, and the chef is another person with strong feelings about the true importance of the festive season. He regularly helps out at Christmas time, and last year provided food for a Christmas event at Thatcham Baptist Church.

- Café gives chef ringing welcome

The Eight Bells Café and Bistro welcomed a professional chef into its kitchen this week.

The coordinator of the café, Kate Bailey, welcomed Hassen Guerroudj, the executive chef of corporate caterers Kitchen Angels to display some of his tricks of the trade on Tuesday.

Mr. Guerroudj has a history of charity and fund-raising work in Newbury, and this week his aim was to teach members at the Eight Bells, some culinary magic in the form of Mexican cuisine.
